Heroquest wizard!

this was the last of the heroes i had to paint. i kept this for last because the right arm, the raised one, was broken so i had to replace it with an imperial guard tank commander arm which turned out to be quite good, even without the glove.
the paintjob with a decent light is quite good but i don't know why the picture didn't turn out really well. probably i should use a light diffuser and give this miniature a bit of matt varnish.
i was also thinking about adding some stars on the shirt, would it be good?

Heroquest Barbarian restyling!

lots of time ago i painted three of the four Heroquest heroes, but the Barbarian was quite fragile: the sword was already broken and glued when i bought the game so, when it got broken again, i thought it would be good to do a bit of restyling.

i used a sword blade from the GW Skeleton sprues and then glued it on the hilt. instead of painting it plain metal, i chose a neat colour gradient in order to make it look like a magical, red-hot, sword. i'm quite satisfied about it. can't wait to play all the Heroquest expansions with my friends!

Fantasy Monday #3: Heroquest Evil Sorcerer

"Skeletor" is done! i'm not completely satisfied about this miniature but i don't think i'll strip it for now. i really don't like how the skull turned out, vallejo bad moon yellow doesn't provide a very bold coverage, which is bad. i will use a different approach next time... maybe i can try to give it a wash. i'll see what i can do to fix this fantastic miniature, it's a shame that i painted it this bad.

Fantasy Monday #3 (wip): Heroquest Evil Sorcerer

it has been a long time since the last Fantasy Monday so it's time to re-start! it will also be a smart thing to do to break all this sci-fi painting, i don't wanna get bored by my imperial guard so soon.
this miniature reminds me Skeletor from the cartoon HeMan (maybe names are different in UK or US editions, dunno) so i'm gonna paint it like that dude. for now i finished the skin.

Fantasy Monday #1: Heroquest Chaos Warrior

today, november 2nd 2009, begins Fantasy Monday post series. as the name tells every monday i'll post some fantasy vintage miniature painted by me, just to break the sci-fi posting that can be a little boring if kept costant.

this monday i'll show you this Heroquest chaos warrior: it is painted in a quite unusual scheme: for the armour i used tin bitz highlighed with brazen brass on black basecoat. then the insignas and the cloth has been painted with an undercoat of regal blue and a highlight of enchanted blue. i wanted to paint the axe like a magical frost axe but soon i realized that the blue layers were too dark so i imagine this like a generic magical axe. the leather of the glove and the boots was painted black and softly highlighed with german grey because the classic brown leather would not suit the yellowish armour. the base has been painted with a dungeonlike stone blocks pattern and then glued with some flock in order to represent the musk of the humid enviroment.
do you like it?

heroquest monsters!

here's a batch of orcs i've painted some time ago for d&d... they are from the heroquest box, remember? i tried to paint them with a early 90s fashion... probably this scheme is too flat but i'm satisfied about them... and i particularly like the partially tiled base, so, please enjoy, and comment of course!

oldies part 2

another load of new (old) painted stuff:
the infamous colonel shaeffer of the 13th penal legion... urban camo scheme for him to match colours of my imperial guard veterans. since in fifth edition codex he hasn't got any rule i guess i'm gonna play him as a normal vet sarge. i love his german ww2 fashioned cap but, despite this, i think it is a greatly overvalued miniature.
this is a nice one: imperial guard commissar back from early 90s, 1990-91 i guess. extremely charismatic miniature, but also extremely simple, a must have for my army! note the sunglasses, the oversized peaked cap and the medals... Not a step back!
in the end here's a real goodie: 3 of the 4 heroes of heroquest tabletop game (best tabletop game ever)... who doesn't remeber them? there isn't the wizard because his right arm is broken so i've got to fix it before painting... dunno how. in 1990 i was six and i loved this game: i used to play it with some friends who owned it. last year i missed so much this game so i bought it on ebay... now i'm happy :-)

see you!
